Impressive Game David Lee

Normally a Knicks vs. Warriors game this late into the NBA
season wouldn't merit any coverage, but Friday night's 128-117
Warrior victory contained an exception. Knicks all-star big man
David Lee posted his first ever triple-double, and did so in
impressive fashion. Lee recorded a staggering 37 points, 20
rebounds, and 10 assists in the Knick loss.

To put what Lee did in perspective, realize that no NBA player
has gotten gone even 30-20-10 (points-rebounds-assists) since
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did it over 34 years ago. In the midst of
another awful season at the Garden, Lee has been a true bright
spot on the team. His improved jumper, ability to take it to the
basket with either hand, excellent rebounding skills, and
incredible hustle night in and night out have made Lee a crowd
favorite in New York and a pretty safe bet to record a double
double on any given night. The big guy out of Florida has
averaged 20.3 PPG and 11.9 RPG this season, all while keeping
his mouth shut and doing his job throughout New York's continued
struggle.

Unfortunately, it appears that Lee may be on his way out. With
the Knicks clearing enough cap space to sign 2 max free agents,
and with their eyes fixed on the likes of Lebron James, Dwayne
Wade, and Chris Bosh, it would seem that Lee is about to play
his final 7 games in a Knick uniform. Unless the Knicks fail to
sign the max contract guys and have room for Lee, or (less
likely) if Lee decides he really loves New York as much as he
claims and wants to play with the big name guys they bring in
while accepting a smaller deal, all signs point to him taking
his double double act on the road next year. If this really is
the end, then I think it's fitting that Lee has given us Knick
fans a game to remember him by. In his 5 years in New York he
has been the ultimate professional: good in the community,
courteous with the media, and most importantly solid on the
court. He was a breath of fresh air in a league that has been
tainted with players brawling in the stands and guys bringing
guns into the locker room.

David Lee, thanks for being a great player for the last 5 years.
You'll be missed.
