Free for RPG Games

Massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) are not called
"massive" for nothing! Many of the online roleplaying games
(RPGs) around today have millions of subscribers and huge
amounts of playable content. This development costs time and
money to pay the programmers to make the game. To offset these
costs and make a profit these online games often charge a
monthly subscription and also use various tactics to keep you
playing (and paying!). What if you could play rpg games for
free?
A problem with these games is that large amounts of content
require large programming teams to write that content. These
teams of writers cost money and so the company passes these
costs onto the consumer. It is a fact in marketing that it costs
more money in advertising to attract a customer than it does to
offer incentives to keep them. Many online RPGs excel at
offering various incentives to keep you playing. This is ok as
it goes, but what if you really want to have a life outside of
gaming? What if you don't want to play a game as a full time
job?
Now don't get me wrong here, I am not against gaming. I have
played a large number of online rpg games over the years and
many of them are a lot of fun, but I always tried to keep in
sight that these games were an optional diversion from other
things. Many MMOs offer regular content upgrades to keep players
interested, but the cost of this is that often these content
upgrades also effectively make your character obsolete in the
game world. You are therefore encouraged to grind the
honour/gold/whatever in order to maintain your character and
still be on a par with you online friends. Over time I began to
hate this "grinding" aspect of many online rpg games and started
to look for alternatives. I still love gaming, but having to
game merely to keep the game as fun is too much like work and
therefore offers no escape. Eventually I found an answer.
Online flash rpg games are often 100% free. They are not
designed for extensive "grinding" and so can be played at your
convenience, rather than that of the games company. They do not
require an extensive installation as they are downloaded to play
in your browser in seconds. While it is true that they often
lack great depth this can be a good thing as it means you are
free to try many games of a period and can always find something
new to take your fancy. If, like me, you still love gaming but
don't fancy making gaming executives richer or giving up large
amounts of your time to play an online game give flash games a
try. Many flash games offer themes that are roleplaying related,
but these are rpg games for FREE!
